AT&T no longer wants HBO Max, but the streaming platform is gaining traction with customers.
Home to Hollywood Hollywood blockbusters such as “Game Th F Thrones” and “The Sopranos” -like franchises and “Wonder Woman 1984”, HBO and HBO Maxx added a little over 10.7 million subscribers in one year, with 2.8 million coming. On Thursday, AT&T reported that the three months end in June. That figure includes both HBO Max and the HBO TV channel.
The company has 67.5 million subscribers to HBO and HBO Max, with 47 million in the United States. AT&T, which has struck a deal to sell its media businesses, expects HBO and HBO Max to have 70 million to 73 million customers by the end of the year, more than previously forecast.
The most popular streaming service, Netflix, has 209 million subscribers, with approximately 66 million in the United States. It gained customers in the second quarter, but growth has slowed significantly and it has lost 430,000 customers in the US and Canada, a sign that cracks are beginning to appear in Streimer’s long-running dominance.
Speaking on the broader industry, Jason Killer, chief executive of AT&T’s media arm, WarNermedia, said in an interview: “All I can promise you is change. There is no doubt that change is coming, and it is right because we live in a dynamic time. “
WarnerMedia, including CNN, Warner Bros. Film and television studios and Turner Cable Networks are going to be the property of Discovery Inc., as media companies keep tumbling to each other to launch on Amazon, Apple Pal, Facebook and Google. The deal, which is expected to close in the middle of next year, will make Walt Disney the second-largest media business in the United States, behind the company and ahead of Netflix and NBC Universal.
Mr. The killer, who learned just weeks before the acquisition would be announced, could be fired after the deal closes.
The two companies are barred from working together until the merger is approved by government regulators, including the employment contract of any company. However, such deals often involve explicit arrangements for leadership. Mr. Killer said he met socially with Discovery chief David Zaslav, but he did not raise the issue of his employment.
“David and I have known each other for a long time, and I think it’s fair to say that we have a lot of shared respect,” he said.
Mr. Said Killer, who took charge of the company just 15 months ago No plans to move away.
“There will be an issue where I choose the head next year where I think about this topic,” he continued. “But I certainly don’t intend to do that until 2022.”
Mr. The killer, who has been Hilu’s founding chief executive, is considered an iconoclast in Hollywood. In 2011, he expanded the industry with his now-famous manifesto on the future of entertainment, which, for many, came as a critical overview of Hulu’s corporate ownership.
This post pun traditional TV to run a lot of ads. Mr. Killer also blasted the cable, predicting that viewers would eventually drop expensive packages.
After Mr. Joining Killer and War Media, he quickly changed executive positions and reduced costs in an effort to streamline operations.
He then angered Hollywood (again) by breaking with tradition and releasing the entire 2021 lineup of Warner Bros. They were to hit theaters the same day on HBO Max. The move cost some of Hollywood’s biggest players back-end-profits – commissions earned on receipts from top-flight makers and Stars’ box office fees – but the company struck deals to make sure payments were made quickly.
Unlike Netflix, Disney + and HBO Max and other new entrants to streaming have legacy agreements with cable distributors and Hollywood studios that prevent the more complete choke of making movies and TV shows available online.
Killer for Mr., the move was not about upsetting Hollywood Hollywood, but part of a larger strategy to make HBO Max laugh.
It seems to have worked. “Godzilla v. Kong on HBO Max helped increase customer service roles.
Mr. Killer wants to continue that strategy until 2022. Warner Bros. Will release only 10 films for the streaming platform. Remaining comic book characters starring Mr. Robert Pattinson will have relatively short windows in theaters for 45 days before being shown on big-budget films like “The Batman” on HBO Max, according to Mr. Killer.
“It’s very different from the way the world works in 2019,” he said. “Ultimately, I think as long as you think about it, change can be very good not only for customers, but also for the people we work with.”
